AX is proud to announce the first success story of the 2013 California winter combine. Participant and agency player Jamel Wallace has secured a week’s trial at Ljungskile SK. He will be joined by box-to-box midfielder Dominic Furness after AX agency staff recommended him to the Swedish Superettan outfit.
Jamel Wallace and AX first worked together when he was evaluated at Biola University’s combine in May 2012 and it was there that AX agency staff recognised his potential as a professional player. After he failed to win a trial at a club, he was invited back for the San Diego combine in December 2012. There the hard work prevailed and he was offered professional terms by Wilmington Hammerheads head coach Dave Irving, formerly a teammate of George Best and Guy Newman at NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
After a fine year in defence for the Hammerheads during the USL Pro 2013 campaign, Wallace was eager to further his career and attended AX’s 2013 winter combine in Carlsbad. The former San Diego State athlete was impressive at the back but many were surprised when none of the European coaches and US coaches showed furthered their interest. However, AX agency staff and Scandinavian director Patrick Walker had great belief in his talents and after a recommendation to Ljungskile SK, got him a trial in western Sweden.
AX agency staff are always looking to provide opportunities for talented players, both amateur and professional, opportunities to prove themselves at the highest level possible in Europe and it’s not just Jamel Wallace’s endeavours that demonstrate this.
Dominic Furness, who was plying his trade with FH of the Icelandic Premier League, contacted AX as he wanted to begin a new chapter in his career. Dom sent his CV and highlights and with this the 25 year-old English midfielder has been recommended to Ljungskile SK. Furness will join Wallace on trial in Sweden where they will both fight to earn contracts with the Superettan club.
