Matt Sanner has earned the opportunity of a lifetime. A four-year starter at Princeton University, Sanner collected two first-team All-Ivy League honors and scored 20 goals throughout his collegiate career. But in spite of all that, Sanner was largely ignored from MLS clubs. Perhaps a less known conference plagued him from getting the proper recognition from scouts, because a quick look at his skill set reveals a physically sound attacker with a real determination in his game.
It was these attributes that also enabled Matt Sanner to earn an opportunity to trial with two Swedish soccer clubs in Europe, IFK Lulea and BK Bodens after scouts from both clubs were impressed with his display at the NY Pro Soccer Combine at Mitchell Athletic Complex, which was held June 28-30, 2013. Such exciting alternatives abroad for young and able American soccer players means that many are getting the opportunity to play soccer internationally in the expansive soccer leagues throughout Europe.
Today, July 15, 2013, Matt Sanner will be trialing with BK Bodens of Sweden. With the opportunity to finally get signed to a professional soccer contract, Sanner could be living out a childhood dream, formed long before he won a U18 USDA National Championship with Carmel United Academy or featured for the Princeton soccer team. Now Sanner will have the opportunity to compete against top professional European opposition and see how far his career can go.
Such tryouts with European soccer clubs are often the result for talented players who partake in the Pro Soccer Combines offered by AX Soccer Tours. By showcasing players in front of coaches and scouts from around the world, young soccer players are given the chance to prove themselves through these professional soccer tryouts. Like Matt Sanner has discovered, if you preform well at a combine you will be offered professional opportunities. We wish Matt the best of luck in Sweden.
