Bodens BK signing of Lewis Ellis marks another success story from AX’s 2015 showcase in Finland and Sweden. The former Cardiff City academy player will be available for the Swedish Second Division outfit after completing college at the end of April.
Ellis initially linked up with AX at the Chicago combine of December 2014. After managing to make time away from his studies and amidst worries over his fitness, the Welsh midfielder won the plaudits from St Louis FC representatives as well as AX agency staff.
He was then invited onto the Scandinavian showcase and the onlooking scouts and coaches saw a player who could thrive at the professional level. An offer was tabled by a side from the Swedish Third Division, but Ellis had a small amount of time remaining at college and decided he would finish it.
It was walking to the gym one Sunday, however, that Ellis received a phone call saying that he had been offered a deal by Bodens BK with four hours of the Swedish transfer window remaining. He still had to finish college, but was able to negotiate a last minute deal that allowed him to complete his studies before moving to Sweden.
In Lewis Ellis, Bodens have acquired a player who is adept both in the centre of midfield and down the wing. He will also aid his new club’s promotion push with his knack for scoring beautiful goals: be it cutting in from the right wing to curl in a shot with his left, or lifting a shot with his right over the wall and in on a freekick, Ellis is sure bring more entertainment and fire-power to the Boden Arena.
